Christmas on the Moon
7 Dec
It all started with a text. Most brilliant ideas these days do. Dean was in an airport. And the message from him a few months back said “I’ve got the Christmas service planned out.” I won’t lie; I got kind of excited.
We had a vision from our Pastor to make happen. Conversations with Scott and then many others on the team helped bring tonight to fruition.
Oh my. Tonight! Over 1,100 people joining us at “one of Tallahassee’s premiere night clubs” for Christmas on the Moon.
This is not normal! It can not be explained. Only 2 and a 1/2 years in, we know that this is not of our doing. And we remind ourselves of that constantly.
What a night. Oh. my.
The goal was simple, yet profound. To share the story of Christmas, and what that means for us on every other day besides December 25th.
I serve with amazingly talented people. From those that can deliver a monologue, share part of our global vision, or belt a note. These people are the best that exist.
I’m wondering two things tonight:
What are people, who were there and do not believe, thinking as they lay their heads down on their pillows tonight?
And what are people who go to other churches, who have no commitment and float and shop around and use up space, THINKING? There is nothing comparable to The Well in Tallahassee! I may be biased (okay, I am). But there is nothing comparable!
And that’s all because God’s hand is upon it.
Two of my favorite moments:
Hark, the Herald Angels Sing, with a thousand voices, so poignant following Dean’s message.
And a man. who. can. saaaang. O Holy Night, my friends. O. Holy. Night.
And because the world’s asking for it, here’s the music from the night. Almost all of the songs. Play them here, or right click and download the links from the song title to have on your computer or iPod.
Joy to the World/All Creation Sing
Here’s the Clean Water video we showed. Powerful. And you can donate the rest of the month at CleanWaterForChristmas.com.
There was the girl puking in the bathroom during O Holy Night.
And the video camera that kept quit working like it was possessed.
And the computers that kept shutting off.
And the greeters that hated their Santa hat uniforms.
That was all behind the scenes.
All part of my favorite parts.
It was Christmas. On the Moon.
A very Merry Christmas, indeed.
